A new initiative to curb crime, A step in the right direction?
Islamabad police take a step to seriously tackle the rising crime rates in the Capital city by putting forward the idea of a “Neighborhood Crime Watch”.
Dacoity/house burglary crimes have been on a steady rise in the Capital city. Despite the tight security measures being adopted, there have been numerous reports of dacoity and petty crimes, such as, mobile snatching and extortion of personal possessions at gunpoint, in Markaz and residential areas.
The police, no longer able to contain the situation by themselves, introduced a neighborhood watch system to help keep an eye on suspicious activity before it spirals out of control.
A group of street watchers would be appointed in each area/sector to inform the authorities of any questionable activity in the area under their watch.
Furthermore, the members of this watch will be connected to the police through an app, with which any activity can be immediately reported.
